This rack is solid and mounts on my Civic sedan easily. If I wanted to, I could mount the rack without opening the trunk. As far as trunk racks go, it's as good as any which means it has some inherent problems: Straps need to be tightened and loosened to put the rack on an tak it off; Bikes are packed together so pedals engage spokes; universal bike mounts are acceptable, but not a perfect fit. When a bike rack manufacturer fixes any of those problems they'll get 5 stars. I use this rack to haul 2 mountain bikes about 10 miles on a weekly basis.
